Shipyard Golf Club, the former home of the Hilton Head Seniors International from 1982 to 1984, was rated as one of the finest layouts on the Senior PGA Tour. The 27-hole layout wanders through tall pines, magnolias and moss-draped oaks. Adding to the beauty and character of the course are many lagoons and ponds, which must be negotiated if you are to play to your handicap. Hardly a day passes without seeing an alligator or two on the banks of these winding lagoons! Accurate tee shots and well-measured approaches are a must on this championship course. Most of the greens are large and well-bunkered and their undulating surfaces demand a delicate touch.
Two of the three inter-connecting nines are combined for a unique and challenging 18-hole round. The original two nines were Clipper and Galleon, while Brigantine was added at a later date.
