Cannon Ridge Golf Couse, located in Fredericksburg, Va., has been named 'Top 3 Best New Public Course in the Country,' and as a 'Top 10 course (all categories) in Virginia,' by Golf Digest.
On December 11, 1862 The Battle of Fredericksburg began. This battle started on the ridge above the Rappahannock River. The Union Army took camp there in preparation for battle. Along the banks of the river The Union Army setup cannons that gave cover fire for the troops during the battle. The fighting lasted for four days with General Lee driving out The Union for a Confederate victory.
On this historic site Former PGA Tour Player/Commissioner Deane Beman and renowned golf course architect Bobby Weed have teamed up to create a world-class golf facility. What was once a Civil War battle site, Beman and Weed have transformed into a great old style golf course. During your round of golf at Cannon Ridge Golf Club you will experience a piece of history with breath taking views, deep ravines, and historic cannon emplacements.
Although this is a challenging course, it's not going to leave players feeling defeated. There is not much water that comes into play, only a number of natural ravines. The course can best be described as interesting and challenging, but not backbreaking.
