Renaissance Park Golf Course was founded in 1984, with its first facility being the John Adams Tennis Center and then in 1985 came the addition of the softball and soccer complex. This just wasn't enough for the 400-acre park project. The city landlords decided to add a golf course. The key to their final decision on a golf course was that there wasn't anything else that could be built on a landfill.NOTE: Golfers must call course book tee time atleast 4 hrs in advance and identify they are using a voucher as form of payment.  Golfers must print and present physical voucher at check - in.Architect Kidwell & Hurdzan Inc., an environmental conscientious architect company, was chosen to draw up the plans for the 7680-yard golf course. In 1987 Renaissance Park Golf Course was opened. After 8 years Renaissance Park Golf Course went under the architect pencil one more time. In 1995 the golf course closed for renovation (A much needed face-lift). The decision was to make the course shorter and more player friendly for the public.Renaissance Golf Course is the longest golf course in Charlotte from the tips at 7,360 yards.  The front side plays like a link-style course where an errant drive won't cost you.  The back plays more like a Carolina course, cut through the woods with severe elevation changes.  Shot making is of the essence.  Renaissance is great for tournaments and outings because of its easy to Interstate 77 and its outdoor pavilion that seats 144.
